The best artists, such as Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Raphael, were also very scientific. Johannes Kepler, the founder of modern astronomy, determined in a scientific way that the relationships of the planets' distances from one another, are illustrated by the alternate nesting of Platonic Solids and spheres / shells (circumscribed). He described this as a beautiful work of art, by the Creator.
Both Art and Science are two sides of the same creativity of the human mind, expressed in somewhat different ways. Science, and especially the science of geometry ("the Queen of the sciences"), as illustrated by Carl Gauss, is the greatest achievement of mankind. With science, mankind can go from the microcosm within a drop of dew, to the furthest reaches of the starry heavens.

Science.
For the most part.. art already existed.
Any art that was made by man was copied from or inspired by nature.
Take a painting. Of a landscape as by Monet for example.
It couldn't exist without the beautiful landscape first of all.
The colours that nature gave us. That also brings me to my next point. The first paints were used from crushed seeds and inks etc from plants.
Then we managed to make the colours ourselves.. that would be science. So science always wins.
Art is always subjective, it is to do with perception like the first poster said.
The skill of the artist (any artist, sculpter, film-maker etc) doesn't necessarily mean the piece will be pleasing to the eye or affect us emotionally.
And if we are talking about things like architechture being art as an achievment, then it's not really art, it's more about the skill of being able to build such wonderful and complicated things.

Art is entirely perspective and while if you get really philosophical, so isn;t science, but for the rest of us., science is an accomplishment.
Art is merely percepption

Strictly by definition scientific advances are achievements, art isn't. We can be proud of both.
