The reason I have a dog door is because I have two small dogs. I'm afriad that the dogs will influience the cat to go out.
I'm thinking about getting one of those high tech dog door with the collar to activate it, but I think that might be a bit expentive, and I haven't been able to fing any. What should I do?

There's no breed that is more apt to stay indoors then another, but in my experience I've found that females are likely to be more content to stay indoors. Even neutered males want to go outside and prowl. As for the dog door, you're right that the cat will most likely want to follow the dogs. You'll need to block the cat's access to the dog door.

Any cat can be trained to stay inside --- i.e. not to make a run for an open door -- I have had many cats and I think that they prefer inside life. (Hey, no dogs, no cars, no snow.....)

How a cat might react to an available doggie-door might be a challenge because as we all know cats are very curious and that swining door might be tempting! Plus, you are right, if the cat becomes friendly with the dogs, it may want to follow them outside. I have known of cats who do not venture outside of their fenced in yards, much like most dogs but I have no idea how to train cats to do this.

If you really want to keep kitty inside, and for it's health it is best you do I would close off the doggie door and train the dogs to "ask" to go out when they need to do so. It's probably better for the dogs too!

A brown tabby female, on average, is more likely to stay home. She might still go outside but not far. That's my experience, and I read it also on a website about cat color and personality, but I can't guarantee it.

make the dog door so that it's impossible for the cat to go through.
