I don't want your opinion, just some possible pros and cons for torture. This is not torture for regular criminals but for terrorists that can pose a threat to the safety of Americans. This is for a debate soon.

The main "con" that I know of is that generally people who are being tortured will say anything to make the torture stop. So it means that usually the information gleaned from torture sessions is suspect at best and lies at worst.

Recently, military spokesman (especially retired 4-star Generals) have stressed that intelligence obtained under methods of torture is usually bogus, and of little value. And, if the US adopts such methods, then our brave men and women in the service around the world, would also be subject to that same torture, were they to be captured by enemy forces.

Torture is in violation of the Geneva Conventions, and the Nuremberg Tribunals.

There is no "pro" torture, under any civilized circumstances.

the main one pro is to make the terrorist to speak what it knows, but if the terrorist not to know what you want to know, it can say anything, or if not to say and to insist in not speech the person can die. It will be that it does not compensate to use the inteligecia (as for example psychological methods) to solve the situation?
