when you go to sleep we want to be able to raid your booty - if you take candy on the other days, how will we know? we'll miss out on candy-stealing opportunities. it's just not right.

Parents don't want anything bad to happen to their kids. People don't usually just walk up to you and offer to give you something (like candy). So if a stranger wants to give you candy, you could guess that they were up to something (and using the candy as a way to do it). But on Halloween, it's no longer weird to give away candy - if you have a front door, you're expected to give it away. So, it makes it more acceptable to take candy from a stranger. Parents (especially of younger children) often still take precautions like restricting you to a particular neighborhood. Although they're strangers to you, you might be surprised to learn that your parents do know most of the people.

Who says it's ok to take candy from strangers on Halloween? Children are taken to friends and relatives houses of only people known by the parents or the parents are just asking for a razor in an apple.

I'm a mother so I understand, however, if you live in a neighborhood where you know everyone it's okay. Like for example too, You can go to churches and do trunk or treat and they are safe there too, then most radio's have safe areas to go to also. During these holidays most hospitals will do a safe candy check where they x-ray the candy to make sure there is nothing wrong. Taking candy from strangers is still not good if it's someone that you don't know and your child doesn't know. I want my children to be safe thay is why I'm the one taking them around to houses we know and places we know people. Only go to places you know!!

It is okay on Halloween because parents are with children watching where they go and who they take candy from, one thing my family always does is take two different bags for each kid, one for houses of people you know and the other for houses of those you don't that way you know which candies have to be inspected more carefully.

We only take our children to the homes of the people we know or trick or treat at church, where all the adults put bags of candy in their trunk and the kids go to each one and get candy. That way my kids still get to participate, and we are not taking candy from strangers.

As a child, my parents never told me not to take candy from strangers. But then again no one offered me any. Still, on Halloween my mother wouldn't let me eat Candy Corn or anythig like lolipops. I guess he was afraid people poisoned them. I would be taking candy from older men, and think they were evil villains....

It shouldn't be okay on Halloween. Children should use even more caution on Halloween because people can get kind of crazy & do bad stuff to the candy. Be wise!

We tell them not to take candy from strangers so that they won't be easily lured into some guy's car. Or worse.

The neighbors, on the other hand, may be strangers, but the parents (who normally accompany little kids here) sure as heck know where you live!

may be we think it's OK cause because it's a Holiday. but there are other options out there nowadays where you don't have to go door to door . Church's, schools and malls sometimes have a safe Halloween carnivals or give out treats to trick or tr eaters. we have a haunted house for all the neighbor hood kids, it's a scary good time. next year you can have a neighborhood block party for the kids -- its safer!! have a great Halloween.
