my five dollar. bill never had the strip put in also there is a space where the strip should have been. the printing is all there but moved over where the strip should have been. on both sides

You need to take the bill to a currency dealer and go from there. I said a currency dealer, not a coin dealer, unless he has a lot of currency. Error notes pop up all the time. The press or it's operator can goof up. The best bet is a currency pro. One such person is Denly's of Boston. denlys@aol.com. There are more but try this one.

The premise was that it would prevent counterfeiting I believe.
One purpose it serves is that with the proper equipment, like that used in airport security, one can tell exactly how much money you have in your luggage and on your person.
Did you know that it is illegal in the US to carry more than 10K in cash?

I think some folks find the strip offensive (invasion of privacy for the honest... a threat for criminals) and remove it. That could by why the strip is missing from your bill.

Its A Security Strip that says "Five US Dollars" in Micro Printing.
You Might want to go to the bank. Make sure you tell them where you got the bill from. It Might Be Counterfeit!
