You're right and it is a new problem of the youth especially. I remember hating a teacher so much in 5th grade, but wouldn't dare refer to her as anything but Miss, I probably wouldv been smacked if I said anything else.
There is a lack of parenting and traditional values.
Let's keep fighting this!!!!!!!!
I respect President Bush!!!!!

Whether you like the man in office you show respect for the office. When Mr. Clinton was in office you did the same thing, called him Mr. Clinton or Mr President.
Showing respect for the office is not earned or antiquated.

C'mon already - in the case of Bush, Mister is about the most respect anyone can give him. He's the most hated president in the last 50 years and considering that as a life form, he's just a step above the average monkey which is an insult to the world's monkeys.

Yes the President should be shown respect. Disagree, argue and state your opinion, but respect.
I always thought that titles separate, and give an impression that one person is better than another. The President is just one guy who happens to be running the country, and I respect the position he has, but if I ever met George Bush, I would have no problems saying, "Hello George......." and I don't believe that would be disrespectful at all. Also I don't think George would mind.

Give us a president that deserves respect and I will gladly give it, but don't expect it for this Texas bully!!
Do you not get that he knew about 9/11 for at least 2 weeks before it occured. That he put us in a war that has nothing to do with 9/11 or WMD, but rather for his own personal agenda!! Look at Iran, Syria and North Korea, should we maybe do something about these countries?? He does nothing to make this country safer, just look at the border issues. What about all the people who have no health care, can't get affordable education, the economy and the huge deficit that he has created? This guy is the most arrogant, self absorbed president that we have ever had, do you really think he cares about the average american? No!!! He's all about big business ... respect you say ... do what you can, but I can't!!!

People of authority SHOULD be shown respect. We live in a whole new different generation since when I was a kid. Kids have no fear, either, because they know they'll get away with it. If more would join the military, you'll really learn how to respect people. I'm called Mam by almost every soldier I meet.

I usually do say "President Bush", just so some poor soul who shares the same last name as the president doesn't get lumped in with that dim-wit.
ps - "I happen to agree and like Bush" ---- You just did exactly what you were complaining about. Typical.....

Respect is something that is earned, not automatically given. GW hasn't come close to earning my respect.
And that has nothing to do with his political affiliation - I always referred to President Reagan with the respected address/title.

What you were taught is antiquated. The president must earn respect like the rest of us. His policies, his lying, and his ignoring the wishes of the American people does not entitle him to respect.
