So glad you consider Lord Of The Rings to be one film, and yes, it's by far the best 'film' of the last 10 years.
There have been many brilliant films in that time, Spiderman 1 & 2, the Matrix, the Harry Potter franchise, Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, Titanic, to name but a few, but Peter Jacksons' 9 year 'labour of love' stands head and shoulders above anything else.
Film-making at it's very best.

They are good and as they were based on the best book ever written (in my opinion) they had a good start.

Harry Potter isn't fit to wipe the backside of any story Tolkein wrote. How people like that plageuristic durge I will never know. Having said that the films are not terrible. I just hate Rowling and the obsession the world has with her craply written books (and yes I have read all of them... they are rubbish).

For me the best original idea for a film in the last decade has to be "Being John Malcovich".... brilliant.

for sheer cinematic splendour they certainly are the best films of the last decade. for once CGI was used perfectly (Gollum) and the use of New Zea land's majestic scenery was incredible. The greatest moment for me was the lighting of the beacons in the third film. It was pure cinema.
You could tell it was a labour of love making these films. They are not perfect but heck they tried and produced something very special.

I'd consider it 'this' decade. Not 'last' decade. LOTR editting was well done, not too draggy and not too fast either. It was very well timed and enough for viewers to understand the concept without the need to read the book. Definitely one of the great films for this decade. My shortlist would be LOTR, Akeelah & the Bee (coz' it was well shot and the way it carries the story was excellent), The Matrix, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Requiem for a Dream, Shrek & the Incredibles (tie for best original animated story), Hitch (best romantic I've seen in a while).....urr..I think that's all i can come up with for now. There's actually an internet film database for ranking of the best films of the decade.

I would go with the Star Wars movies or Harry Potter movies, but Lord of the Rings would also make it on my list... in 3rd place.

I wouldn't say the best film of the last DECADE, no, but the series was pretty good.
