health information patient privacy

it is basically a law that makes a patient sign a peice of paper authorizing the transfer of thier medical records from either one doctor to another, or from lab to dr, or when one applies for life insurance, giving the dr. auth to release records.
and i think in pharmacies, they wont release the medication to anyone but the patient, unless the patient has given that right to someone else and it is documented.

This act covers more than just medical information my son in law wrecked my car and due to the hippa act they wouldn't tell me what kind of tickets he received. It basically covers your right to privacy on many things. If you really want all the information go to the wikopedia.com site.

It basically means that people who have access to medical information (doctors, nurses, people who ship medical products to people, etc.) can't tell others about your medical condition or what type of medical supplies you use/buy. You have the right of privacy.
