Wow, I just did some news searches, and my biggest problem was figuring out *which one.* Apparently kids are dropping like flies there.

I found a Darryl Head of Doss High School in Jefferson County, shot Wednesday night. Not exactly the same details, but the way these stories spread that's not surprising. Think that's what you heard about?

BTW, I assume you mean a student FROM the high school, not AT the high school. We definitely would have heard if it happened at school.

Teen shooting victim in critical condition

A teenager was shot in the head last night, reportedly while sitting in a car at a stoplight.

The victim, whose identity was not released but who was described as being in his late teens, was in critical condition at University Hospital, said Alicia Smiley, a Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman.

A person ran into the emergency room at Jewish Hospital about 9:30 p.m. screaming that a man in a car outside the hospital had been shot in the head, confirmed Vince Luney, a MetroSafe communications supervisor.

An initial account from the car’s driver to hospital officials was that the two had stopped at a light in the California neighborhood when someone shot the teen through the car window, he said.

Smiley said police believe the shooting occurred near Dixie Highway and Date Street, though they could not confirm this. The driver took the teen to Jewish Hospital, Smiley said.

Jewish Hospital security then transported the victim to University’s trauma unit.

Louisville Metro Police responded shortly after the initial call from Jewish Hospital. Evidence technicians were searching the car outside the hospital for clues.

Smiley was not sure if homicide detectives had questioned the driver but was sure they would soon.
