what should i wear to my friends semi formal 16th birthday party other then a dress?

Perhaps you could wear some good (but not necessarily expensive, and not necessarily with rips and tears in them!) jeans with some simple black heels (or whatever colour you want that goes) and a stylish camisole/halter top, suitable for the time of day the party is going to be held around.
(It depends where you are though, I'm in Australia and it's summer, if you're in the Northen Hemisphere and it's cold it might be better to wear a long sleeved stylish shirt rather than a halter/camisole!!)
It also depends on your style, what I suggested might be way different to what you were thinking of. If so, just wear something you would usually wear, but dress the outfit up with something you don't usually wear but that you still feel comfortable in.
Never wear something that you are going to feel self conscious in because it will spoil your night and you won't have as good a time!

For Semi-formal you should look nice, always err to the side of caution and look nicer than what you think people will be wearing that way people will look at you as really put together and not sloppy.

I would suggest a pair of black cigarrette pants (go to your ankles aand are very slim) and a pair of strappy heels paired with a fancy top of some sort. If you are in a warmer climate try a cute halter top or a cami with a blazer if you are in a cooler climate.

semi formal means no jeans or casual tops. You can wear a skirt and a nice top, tights/leggings with a nice top/tunic, or you can wear a dress that isnt casual that you can see yourself shopping in it and isnt formal that you can see yourself going to a fancy wedding in. You could even wear some nice dress pants with a nice top. Make sure your hair and makeup arent over the top either. Just around the same leel as what you're wearing. Have fun!

gauchos are back! they look formal, but are very comfortable. best part- they look great with heels, or flip-flops. try pairing them with a cropped sweater and a cute tank.
