My friend is always bad-mouthing people, especially to me. I want her to stop, but I don't know a good, and polite way to tell her, without making her mad. HELP!

She probably feels inferior to others and wants to make others look bad compared to herself. Its just inferiority complex that's all.

Try to make her feel special if she does not bad mouth other people. Try to make her feel worthy and needed and then she will not feel inferior and stop bad mouthing other people on her own.

Say, "please stop talking about so and so behind their back." You only have to be so polite, and if she's a decent friend, she'll forgive you for the critique and hopefully learn something, too.

Just be aware that any perceived criticism, no matter how politely worded, could very well put you at the center of quite a few of this person's conversations. But don't worry, you won't be around to hear about them.
