So you can carry a conversation with other intelligent individuals, and so you don't make stupid stereotypical comments about other cultures. (I don't really mean YOU, I mean whoever.)

The more you know about different people, races, and cultures, the more accepting you will be of people.
It's almost a safe guess to say that people in the US who are ignorant and racist probably didn't receive a great education. Education and learning does help people become better citizens and less likely to commit crimes.
A lot of society's and as well as the world's problems come about because of miscommunication. Like say you made soup for someone and they burped after it. Burping is rude in some cultures but it's acceptable form of graitude in other cultures. In Japan, I hear it's customary and expected for someone to finish their entire bowl of noodles when you eat out. If you leave one noodle in it, some people may think you're being rude but you're actually not.

By learning about others' cultures, you can have more understading about why they do the things they do. When in settings like for business, you may be able to work better with some one just because you understand a little about their culture. It just in general makes you a more well-rounded person.
