Has anybody here went through the adoption process? What all did you have to do and how difficult was it (pretty difficult I imagine)? She said she would like to adopted from a country where life is rougher.....I do not know if this is in the correct category but any advice or site recommendations are appreciated. Thank you!

My advise .... do an International adoption ... My friends did this and they adopted a 6 mth old from Korea .... He is 11 today and the BEST kid in the World !!

If you live in a decent size city, there will be International adoption agencies that will help you every step of the way to get all the paperwork done etc.

With International adoption, you are GUARANTEED anonymity ... you are not guaranteed that with domestic adoption and I've seen too many cases where the birth mother decides several years later that she wants to be involved or worse yet seek custody of the child.

Go International - you don't have to worry about this.

Yes. I have gone through the process once and am in the middle of doing it again. Is it expensive? Well, not cheap. But there is a nice thing called a tax credit. For foreign adoptions you cannot claim this tax credit until you have completed the adoption. And then, you can only get back what was withheld from paychecks.

I'd recommend your aunt to look at www.gwca.org. They only do Chinese adoptions and so are very good at them. See if there's a representative in the area where she lives. They can usually suggest a social worker. The best part about the GWCA website is that your aunt can order a DVD which will talk about the adoption process and what happens. Very informative.

Start in America. A lot of foster children are available for adoption. In Florida, you have to take about five classes and do about a six month home survey. You can adopt from an outside state also. Those children really need someone to love them. Most are available for free, and you could get help through the government for hospital visits and what not.
