Hi,

Most of the time you can have a vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC).

For most modern C-sections, the incision in the uterus is also a modified C vertical incision. This type of incision can allow normal labor after the next birth...with supervision by medical professionals that can watch for signs of uterine rupture.

If the C-section was performed emergently, it is possible that the cut was vertical. If the cut is vertical, normal labor is dangerous to have for an extended period of time and can lead to uterine rupture. That would require another C-section.

I am sure it is the first type, very few (I would say 10% or less) incisions are of the vertical type. Talk with your doctor to be sure, but I would bet that you could try a vaginal birth next time.

It depends. I agree with the nurse, but you also have to speak with your own Dr. My OB will not allow vbacs for anybody. Alot of hospitals are this way also. It's a way for them to cover their butts legally, just in case anything were to happen. C-sections allow the Dr more control of what happens during the birth. Good luck!
