Never tried it. But I tend to stear clear of medications, man-made things, etc.
I've found the best, most effective things are the natural remedies: Cayenne pepper for sore throats (works well on cuts--hurts, though, but more effective than rubbing alcohol by far--and any burns I've had, too).. it may burn as you eat/drink it (I once made a cayenne-honey-vinegar-water drink when I couldn't sleep cuz of a terrible sore throat... soothed it enough to sleep, and the next morning I felt nothing) but it does help me; C & A vitamins (not too much of either); plenty of water (helps relax the tension sometimes felt in the head/neck/shoulders when sick); icing sore areas, or perhaps laying on a tennis ball if it's tense; steam can help loosen nasal congestion/throat phlegm; stay warm, dry; eat plenty (food will help replenish what the body is fast using up to fight off the illness); relax and watch a good movie... :)
I wish I remembered what vitamin combination my mom has told me to take when I get a cold. I know she gives a few, like echinacea-goldenseal, C, A, E, B 100, and others... but I couldn't say for sure the dosage or what else to take. I so rarely get sick that it's hard to remember which ones.
Taking medications only suppress the symptoms and problems of illness, and they fight them off for you when your body should be the one to do that. If you're getting sick a lot, it may be that your body hasn't had a chance to develop its own system of immunities... just boost your immune system with vitamins when you get sick (not meds), and let it do the work itself.. you'll probably find you get sick much less often, and when you do get sick, it'll be much less severe (I hardly notice when I get sick anymore... usually it's a sore throat and a bit of congestion, and a one-day cough, then it's done... and like I said, the cayenne helps with all those!). Like I say, I rarely ever get sick... and if I do, I take only vitamins and herbs (natural supplements).

I haven't used cold-eeze, but I've used Zicam and it works! If I use it at the very first sign of a cold, the cold doesn't develop. If not, they symptoms aren't as bad and it doesn't last as long.

No but try echinacia with zinc as soon as you get symptoms and the cold will be gone faster and not nearly as bad.
