WOW... okay... I'll take a shot at this. (I am probably too late to help you though as your question was 13 hours ago. How long did you know about this assignment?)

Additional Materials needed:

9" balloon
tape
a strong thread or string
2 paperclips

Tie the thread or string to one of the paperclips and to the snap portion of your trap. Make sure the length is appropriate for your exercise.

Inflate the balloon, twist the nozzle closed, but do not tie it. Use the paperclip that isn't attached to the string/thread to temporarily secure the balloon nozzle.

Position the balloon so the nozzle will be aimed at the candle. Tape it to the floor so it will not blow away when the air is released.

Have that paperclip handy with a string or strong thread attached to it. Secure the nozzle with the stringed paperclip as well. Keep the other one in place until you are ready to go. Eventually, you will want to have that 2nd paperclip just barely holding the nozzle of the balloon.

Now position your mousetrap. Make sure you "secure" the trap to the floor with some tape as well whatever distance away it must be for the rules of the assignment. Make sure you position it so the string is taught, but not enough to pull the paperclip off. (it will be tricky, because you want that paperclip to be like at "hair trigger" ready to pop off the balloon nozzle.)

CAREFULLY, remove the extra paperclip so the other is the only one holding the twisted nozzle and adjust it so it's ready to pop off. (No doubt this will be the trickiest part).

Light the candle.

When the trap is tripped, with luck, the paperclip slips off, releasing the air from the balloon air and blowing out the candle!

Good luck.

attatch one end of a string to the mouse trap an the other end in a slip knot around a water gun trigger. When the trap collapses, the trigger is pulled and shoots out the fire.
