We'd probably use the SMS abbreviations with some 'messenger-speak' thrown in... Oh, and your question would look very different!
It wouldn't hurt if English spelling could more closely reflect the pronunciation sometimes, but it would be hard to co-ordinate agreement among all the language user groups around the world.
A good point made about Pre-18th Century English before Johnson tried to standardize spelling, but don't forget; we should always leave room for a living language to grow and evolve - it will anyway - and that has to include the written form too.

Read Shakespeare, Chaucer, Byron, and any old English stuff you can find on the Internet. See what it was like before there was standard English spelling. Find out how hard it is to tell which word is which. After all, "nae," "naw," and "nye" could all mean "no" or they could mean totally different things.

People on this site will still be complaining about others' spelling, with nothing to back it up.

You will never learn to use commas correctly. Basically, I think people will just continue to do things correctly, as that's the way we've been brought up. (At least, that's the way I've been brought up.)
