Hope this explanation helps:

Azeroth is not a "territory" in WoW. Azeroth is the world that WoW takes place in. Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms are the continents in Azeroth.

You can travel back and forth between the continents of Kalimdor and Azeroth by boat or zeppelin depending on your faction. Kalimdor is mainly Horde, but there are territories that are friendly to the Alliance. Western Kingdoms is mainly Alliance, but there are territories that are friendly to Horde.

Private servers are a violation of the WoW TOS.

Hope this helps!

Private servers are illegal, but people still join/make them anyway.

Kalimdor is the Horde territory, with the only exception of the Night Elves' island, Darnassus.

Azeroth is the Alliance territory, with the only exception of Tirisfal Glades, the Undead's lands, I believe.

You can go to anywhere you want, but beware, if you're a Horde and you walk into Alliance territory or vice versa, you can be attacked at any moment I think.
