How do you find the principal square root of -121?

You can't take the square root of a negative number. You simply put an i (imaginary) beside it making it positive. Include the i in your answer as well.

sqrt(-121) = sqrt(121 * -1) = sqrt(121) * sqrt(-1)

sqrt(-1) = i
sqrt(121) = +11 or -11

so

ANS : 11i or -11i

There is no natural (real?) number that can be squeared to give -121.
