Two hardware options are;
1) remove the hard drive from the 98 pc and plug it into another pc as a slave hard drive : there should be a spare connector on the hard drive ribbon cable of the newer pc allowing you to connect the old drive, along with a spare power connector. You may need to set the jumpers on the rear of both drives - the main one will need to be set to "master/slave present" and the old drive set to "slave" - this will be clearly labelled on the drive.
2) buy a very handy piece of kit called an IDE to USB adapter (eg Maplin code A25AT, £19.99). This connects to the drive and plugs into a USB port.
Both of these options will make the old drive appear as another drive letter on your new pc and you can copy files as normal.

It asks for authorization code or for a password,, ? If its a password, there is a jumper you can move that for a few seconds and put back where it was then start it up and you should be good to go,, but anyway its the reset,, if you look on the motherboard look for the small battery that maintains clock and stuff in memory, close to that there is a jumper that will say something like "Clr 1-2 Norm 2-3" thats the jumper you need to move the little plastic piece to jumpers which ever are to clear itturn on power real quick, turn it off, move jumper back to where it was and then it should start up OK< NOW, If you have newer windows discs say like XP,, you might be able to put them in CD-Rom and start an install of the newer version of windows and it should leave all your files alone,, No promises tho,, Or the safest thing to do is if you have or have access to another computer,, take hard drive out of the puter in question, and set it up as a slave drive then access it that way thru the My Computer on the new computer you have or have access to,

If I were there I could flash the password but I'm not. You can connect that hard drive to another computer. There is a thing called a jumper in the back, it's a little plastic deal on top of some pins which are pointy metal rods. Move the jumper to the slave position which should be labled on the top of the hard drive or somewhere around the jumper itself. Connect the drive to the same cable as the hard drive on the other computer. It should boot from the original hard drive and then you should be able to access the one from the older computer just like any other disk on the system straight from "My Computer". Good luck!

The easiest way is to take out the hard drive and put it into another computer as a slave drive ( you will need to change jumpers to do this). If you have another drive with a CD or DVD in you can just disconnect those and add your drive as a master (no jumper changes) Then you can access the data and copy off whatever you want.

F8
Turn the computer off and back on, immediately start pressing F8 repeatedly, over & over till it starts back up. It should start in safe mode. If it doesn't work keep restarting it & trying till it does. Remember KEEP PRESSING F8 CONTINUOUSLY LIKE A COUPLE TIMES A SECOND !!! If you can get windows to start you may be able to retrieve your pictures if they are not lost or damaged. While you are in Safe Mode, try too run SYSTEM RESTORE found in the Accessories, then in system tools. You should try to get what ever you need before you run that you could loose everything you have stored or saved & have to start from scratch. You can all microsoft, they will help you unlock it over the phone. Hope this helped, it was the only way I could get in mine at one time!
