My son is 4 1/2 months old and I still burp him once after each bottle. Many times he will burp before I even have a chance to pat his back, as soon as he is upright it will all come out. Their bodies usually begin expelling gas around 4-6 months on it's own. I will probably give up burping soon since he isn't having much problems doing it on his own.

I honestly don't remember. I just waited til they burped on their own. Probably about 3 or 4 months, but breast fed babies tend to burp less than bottle fed and I'm a breast feeder.

When I noticed that they could burp on their own usually at about 4-5 mos; keep in mind you need to watch the amount of spit up. If there's much spit up it means there's still a lot of air in there and they aren't getting it all out.
