My son for the past week wakes up out of a deep sleep screaming and everything i do dont calm him down. If hes in a light sleep and whines i can rub his back and tal to him softly and it helps him calm down but does anyone have any suggestions about when he wakes up screaming at the top of his lungs? Hes a very quiet calm baby so the screaming has worried me. Also any ideas what it can be from?

Only thing I have found is that after a couple minutes of putting him on my chest and rubbing his back in circles and talking to him calms him down. It dont happen all the time just maybe 5 out of 7 nights and its only in the dark hours. Hope this helps

Hi, I wish I could pick the best answer but so many answers are good. I called the doctor and he suggested the gas drops which have helped him even during the day when he sounds like hes having a bad dream. Thanks so much

I remember this like it was yesterday. Probably because my son is only 6 months now. He did this often up until about 10-12 weeks. For us, it was gas and acid reflux problems. Does he have any difficulty eating or cry when burping or ever arch his back? If so, it could be reflux and you should talk to the ped, who can get him medicine to help. If not, it's most likely gas. We had both. Before you put your son down and also periodically throughout the day, lie him on his back and bicycle his legs to help relieve gas from his tummy. Warm baths might also help relax him to get it out before naps or bedtime. We found that Mylicon or Little Tummies gas drops right before every bottle helped some as well. Mostly, he'll grow out of it though and you just have to try many things to make him comfortable until he does. Good luck and remember that this too shall pass.

It's normal for your baby to be hungry. They are not eating too much. On average, a newborn consumes about 1.5 to 3 ounces (45 to 90 milliliters) every 2 to 3 hours. This amount increases as your baby grows and is able to take more at each feeding. At about 2 months, your baby may be taking 4 to 5 ounces (120 to 150 milliliters) at each feeding and the feedings may be every 3 to 4 hours. At 4 months, your baby may be taking 4 to 6 ounces (120 to 180 milliliters), depending on the frequency of feedings and his or her size. By 6 months, your baby's formula intake can be between 24 to 32 ounces (720 to 950 milliliters). This also depends on whether you've introduced any baby food.

Sounds like colic. Have you discussed this with the pediatrician yet? Mine did the same thing and it was from upset stomach. Mylecon helped a little but eventually we were given a prescription to soothe her stomach and help relax her tummy muscles. We had to tough it out for 2 months with intermittent night episodes but they did improve until she got over it. Technically it was colic caused by stomach upset but we never determined the exact cause. We tried switching forumla's and all that jazz but nothing worked outside of the meds. You do need to be sure it's not an ear infection though. Little one's tend to hurt worse at night from ear infections because of the pressure on their ear drums when lying down.

something may be hurting him like his stomach, head, or his ears anything. Or it could be that he has gas you should give him some gas drops and she if he still wakes up crying that night or if you are to scared to do that because you dont want to give him something if you aren't sure he has than you should take him to the doctors to get checked out.

May be an ear infection. That really hurts. Check with Doctor, though. He'll give you drops to soothe the pain.

sounds like a gas bubble is making him mad in his sleep. Make sure he's burped well. Worse comes to worse speak with your dr about giving some gas drops.

Check with your pediatrician - there's a possibility that it could be night terrors. I think he may be too young, but my daughter had them and it was very frightening. I'm sorry you're going through this.

factors affecting this are :temeperature, texture of the bed/crib/cradle,or the pressure(height)
the pressure i mean is when your up high and then you go down and go up again then your ears pop maybe its that or colic/gassy burp him often and check his ears or it could be the smell
