You cannot. It is a password. If someone gives it to you, it is the only way. You don't want people to know yours do you. You would have to give it to them to for them to know yours, the same way vice versa.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.
The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com

don't worry every Windows password is stored in hard drive.
what you need is a password cracker which you can get from many sites on line some free some few bucks do Google for password cracker.
But if the password is on the Motherboard all you need to do is remove and replace a jumper on the motherboard this will re set the board so just go the web site of the motherboard. In the computer world NOTHING IS PRIVET...

My brother died and he has passwords on everything. We need to find out what emails he received so we can respond on his death. I don't know how to find his passwords. Is that a good reason to need the passwords?

you can brute force it with random numbers and letters or using a dictionary. A normal brute force program can do this but if it is an alpha numerical password over like 5 digits than this can take a very very long time.
There are other ways but are a lot more complicated. If its a windows passwords are somewhat secure but not perfect.
