Something personalized like business card holders with their name. Laser pointer, engraved. Something for the computer at work, like fancy wrist pad. Box of gourmet hot chocolates, or tea, or gift basket with cheese, mustards, etc, like from Hickory Farms. I used to have to get gifts for 28 employees. What a pain, seven sounds quite reasonable. One year, when the office manager was off her meds, I got everyone a book about dealing with toxic co-workers. One year I got everyone a fancy pop out magnifying glass with a light. Sometimes I would get something individual, like one woman collected elephants, another collected roosters....anything will do.

Christmas is about as secular as any other holiday. The original reason for the season is the winter solstice. It is a time of gathering together to help each other through the hardest months. Note how all the greenery used is a symbol of life continuing through winter. If you gave a gift to your co-worker that wasn't religious and just expressed the ideals of helping each other out and remembering those around you who you care about, I'm sure your co-worker would accept it in that light. You can call it a holiday gift, if you wish to avoid the religious connotations. Best yet, try asking the employee what they do during this time of year and what they think of gift exchanges. Some people think gift exchanges are embarassing and pointless, and that goes across religious lines. If this is a year-end bonus, that's different. I don't think anybody would reject such a token of appreciation for hard work done throughout the year. However, if there is an expectation that the employee should reciprocate, that could be embarassing, especially if that person can't afford to reciprocate equally.

What about department store gift vouchers? They are good because your subordinates get to choose their own preferred gifts. If you think the gift is a little too impersonal, then add a little Christmas card along with the gift voucher. Christmas is a good time to say a couple of nice words. Thank each subordinate for their hard work and let each individual know what his/her strengths and contributions to the company are.

Here's some ideas for $10 - $15. I am assuming that you need unisex gifts?
Mall gift certificates that way they can choose what they want at the store of their choice
A nice box of candy. Hershey's Pot of Gold chocolates are $8 - $10 a box.
Gift certificates for gas. Hey, they need gas to get to work, right?
Personalized pens with their name and what they do on them.
Popcorn tins (you can get these for around $6 at Wal-Mart)
Pretty coffee mugs filled with a variety of candy (candy canes, chocolates, mints, etc.)
Go to your local bakery and order how every many individual gift boxes of cookies/candies for $10 - $15 each for your employees
That's all I've got...hope that I have helped.

go to a dollar store and get each person coffee mugs, then fill them with pens, candies, and a few other small, cheap things. ten wrap it all in the clear wraping paper stuff, and tie it off with a bow. it'll cost you only a couple of bucks for each person, and it's a nice cute thing that you can just put on their desks in the morning. you can even get some holliday cards to attach to the bottom of the mugs.

Do Candy this year. It isn't too expensive and I don't know very many people who would turn it down. You could put it in a christmas coffee mug and save on wrapping expenses too. It is simple.
