In the grand scheme of things who cares? Michael J Fox is on a personal crusade to get federal funds for embryonic stem cell testing.

The facts are that embryonic stem cell testing has great potential but have been unsuccessful. The adult stem cell testing is moderately to very successful at treating some diseases.

There are so many diseases out there until embryonic stem cell research yields any positive results the government should not fund it. Keep the funds on projects making progress.

Fox has a foundation for embryonic stem cell research. He should spend his time getting people to support his foundation's efforts rather that playing politics. Private charities and foundations in the US generate much more research money than the federal government can pony up anyway.

Veda: Michael J. Fox ran a similar ad a couple of years ago for a Repubican candidate. So, you see democrats are not the only party to use people, if indeed that is what is happening. Rush jumped on Fox again yesterday after his faux apology the day before. It's even worse when you have a picture to put with his words. You can view at source link below. You can also view both of Michael's ads.

George Bush has made this a greater issue than is should be. I think Mr. Fox just wants to get cured.. Being chronically ill myself I know I would do anything I could do to try and persuade our leaders for federal funded research in a cure.
Rather he was on his meds or not is irrelevant.
The man is very sick, cut him some slack.
And from a moderate point of view. The Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot, for false promises made and not delivered. Democrats know this and the polls show it. So here comes the attack ads from the Republicans, some are down right misleading and negative.. The public sees this now.
You will eat crow some day if guys like Michael and I get cured from this research, and no child is killed from it. It will happen someday, The far right is just prolonging it. When will everyone learn to legislate and govern this country by the Constitution rather than moral values? The Constitution is one solid piece of great democracy. Everyone has different moral values.

Wake up people you are focusing on the drivel and missing the boat. The important issue is that there are cells that are being destroyed anyway so why not use them for research first.

As one who takes medication multiple times a day I know it is easy to miss a dose. Also I would not take anything written more than a few years ago as true for now.
the parkinson meds are hard to balance and they cause toxicity problems so it is wise in some ways to reduce the dosage when you can. i watched my father-in-law slowly get to where he could not swallow and worse. it is a slow progressive process and you do as much as one can to slow down and when possible to reverse the damage but not all diseases can be undone and fully healed.
I wish Mike well and hope RL the bully buffoon gets fired...why do people listen to him anyway?

The amount of bologna that passes itself off as news is just appalling. He is just bringing a big issue into the forefront of our colective consciences and some of us are responding like stoners and bullys who don't want to look at the important things and admit they are possibly wrong.

by the way... has Rush the bully had his drug test lately.
only a meglomaniac bully living in DENIAL would say such insulting and offensive things and then be grandiose enought to think all he had to do was say a weak "I'm Sorry" what stupidity.

MJF is just fighting for his life and all the millions with Parkinsons and their loved ones know what Mike is going through.

I have been a big fan of Michael J Fox for a very long time. It kills me a little each time I see him suffering. It doesn't matter to me if he was on or off his meds. If you are dying from a killer disease, and there was promise in stem cell research, wouldn't you do the same thing to make your point as effective as possible? Yeah, I thought so, leave Mr. Fox ALONE!
Further, Michael, was struck down in the prime of his life, with a wife, and young children. Every parent wants to be there when their children grow up.
Superman (Christopher Reeves) was also pushing for stem cell research development. Sadly his battle ended.
How many other diseases, and injuries could be cured through stem cell research?

My uncle had Parkinson's Disease and later came down with cancer. I took care of him for his last 2 years. Acting? Not quite. At least not from my experience. As far as the Democrats using him to gain votes doesn't make them any different than Republicans since they will fight dirty also to gain votes but the fact is that Mr. Fox is being torn apart from his condition and for anyone who doesn't have any sympathy not just for him but for the 1000's who have this condition has no heart or compassion and should pray that they or their loved ones' never come down with such a condition.

If the idea is to show clearly the affects of the disease then it would make no sense for him to do the ad while on the meds. A few more points re Fox in response to other questions.

He is an American citizen
He has raised more than $80M for Parkinson's research
He has supported both republicans and democrats over the years.

Why do you think it is sick for the dems to use this comercial?
The republicans air much much much nastier negative ads.

I would rather see ads that address any of the issues that we face over the mudslinging republican ads.

HAVE YOU NO COMPASSION for the sick???

Just wait till you get older and get sick with a disease that has no cure, then you will wise up and see just how foolish your question is. Will you will want to do all you can to fight to live or would you choose to roll over and die?

You question has three thumbs down I think I shall make it four.

Weather he was on or off his meds is irrelevant. The meds only work for a while and the more you use them, the more your body builds up a resistance to them.

The problem is that that fat-oaf-radio-host Rush Limbaugh said he was faking it. If you even bother looking up the symptoms, you'd know its no joke and it just keeps getting worse.

He's been diagnosed for over a decade now. So it is possible he was on his meds and that is how much he shakes now.

In his book didn't he mention two different drugs. One that really did the job, the other not so well? Maybe he was on the latter?

The guy has a degenerative disease, Parkinson's Disease.

Whether he was on or off his med is besides the point. He's merely trying to raise awareness of propositions on state ballots that promote stem cell research. Was he milking his illness? No. He was just showing people what his disease is like and how maybe stem cell research can help him and other people like him.

I'll say this. That was a cheap, dirty ugly shot from the funking loudmouth Rush Limbaugh. How would he like it if people called him a drug addict and a junkie (his addiction to Oxy-Contin & Painkillers), made fun of his illness???

It does not make any differrance. The point of showing the ravages of the desise it to let peopel see what it is really like.

My Father died of Parkenson's and it is a horrable illness. Further, in some people the meds CAUSE the problems you saw in that ad.
