When i was driving my car this morning there was an overwelming smell of petrol going through the car....any ideas what this could be?

Did you just fill up the gas tank to full? it could be a little overfilled or you could have a fuel leak someplace, get it checked.

Most likely it is a gas line rupture. You need to take this seriously...if it leaks onto a hot surface, like your exhaust, you could find yourself engulfed in flames. Do not drive it again until you have this checked! Have it towed to a mechanic. Good Luck!

Several possibilities fuel leak?, if carborated vechicle choke could be hung should have noticed a difference in how it drove.

Walked through gasoline and tracked into car.

the obvious is to look for any leaks. then u may check that your gascap is clicked at least 3 times. cap may be bad. if its cold where your at, the engine will need more gas to run. in need of a tuneup? try turning your heater control from outside air to inside(recirculate).

if i were you i would be checking the fuel lines,you might have a pin hole in 1,also check for a flooding condition.
