Is using two SLI compatable graphic cards better or equal to using 1 strong one? The only solution i see is just getting the better one because it has features that the weaker cards don't have but may lack in some power. For example: 2 MSI NX 7300 GT 256...or... 1 ATI x1600 pro 512? Both pci-express obviously.

I have yet to see any benchmarks that show 2 SLI cards and 1 regular card, each costing the same amount total, that show the 2 SLI doing better. Another words, if you have $400 to spend, go with 1 $400 card instead of 2 $200 in SLI mode.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, in the particular situation you described, the X1600 Pro is not that much better than the 7300GT, so 2 of the 7300 in SLI might be better, but you would still be better off investing that money into one good card, the X1600 Pro would not be that card however.
