I used to go 'crabbin' off Muni Pier in San Francisco. We used a star net filled with junk bait (mostly bullheads that we caught while on the pier & put in the trap). It opens flat when it hits bottom then when you pull it up it closes, trapping anything feeding on the bait. It would catch even very little crabs so it should work for craw dads. Don't have instructions to build one, I know you can buy them in a bait shop. They're just wire so it shouldn't cost too much.

You must be from the south. I assume you mean crawfish. Use a net.
