All fish including bettas like room to swim around and a filter but most betta owners wont buy all that for a fish. What temp is the water? He could need a heater, they like temps around 78-80 degrees.

He's probably just sleeping, Betta fish like to sleep at the bottom or in between rocks. Maybe feed Sparky a bit more, a good rule of thumb is that if all the food is gone in less than five minutes you aren't feeding him enough. Take out any waste food that he did not eat immediately.
Good luck!

hmm... I had the same problem for my betta last week and got very good answers in this forum and he's doing a lot better now. Try keeping his water clean and warm and add some good Aquarium salt (for tropical fishes). I have the "Jungle" brand and it works very well. Check if there is any fungal growth on his body. Check if he has any white spots too... Check this website which has very good explanation of treatments.

Check out the "Betta health" link. They have all the diseases and symptoms listed out and the steps and hopes for getting each one cured.
On the whole, doing a 30% water change every 3 or 4 days and keeping him warm, adding water conditioner and aquarium salt would be the answer to a lot of betta diseases.
Good luck to you and Sparky. I wish he gets well soon.

Try feeding him more than 2 or 3 flakes every other day, that doesn't sound like enough food even for a small beta fish. I would feed him at least once a day.

No, I don't think he's dying. Betta's lay at the botten, it plants, etc. So it's probably normal. Try to keep his water above 75 degrees and you might want to try feeding him a diet with more verity, like alternating flakes with bloodworms a couple of times a week and pellets maybe once a week. But it is good for them not to be fed everyday, actually, it hurts them more to be fed daily because they're pigs and eat anything, but have small stomachs. If he darts around and scratchs himself on rock or plants, look closely with a flashlight for little white spots becuase it could be a parasite or fungus, but any petstore has medicine for him. I like Quick Cure. It works fast and is easy to use. Betta's are very hardy and if it's minor like an external parasite or small fungus, it is easy to cure because they don't need filters and are kept by themselves so they don't need isolated. Check my site out, it's under construction, but the frogs and betta sections are finished.

My girlfriend has 2 beta fish and they act like that all the time. It is when they are floating belly up in the bowl that u have to worry. Beta fish love to sleep at the bottom and even wedge themselves under rocks and plants.

Betta fish are the only fish i comprehend of that can stay in a gallon of water. notwithstanding, they shouldn't settle for any decrease than that. in simple terms by way of fact they could stay to tell the tale in any such small volume of water does no longer recommend they does no longer be lots happier and greater healthy in a 2 gallon tank with a clear out and heater. Please evaluate that set-up to your betta instead. notwithstanding, while you're no longer prepared to grant those hassle-loose centers to your puppy, then a betta is in all risk your maximum suitable guess. they're very tolerant of their proprietors and are quite elementary to guard. playstation . Goldfish could on no account be saved in bowls. they want lots greater water than people understand. Many say that "they only enhance to the size of their container" yet what quite happens is that the goldfish supply up becoming by way of fact they have not have been given to any extent further room to enhance and their inner organs get stunted.
