When you delete something by putting it in the recycle bin the file is still there. When you empty the recycle bin technically the file is still there. Your computer writes it off as free space so any new things you install or put on the computer is automatically written on top of the space where the file once belong. Even though the disk is writen on top of the information is still recoverable. That is why certain programs have methods of erase 1-10times. This means that they write that spot blank 1-10 times.
Here is a program that can retrieve deleted files:
http://www.free-av.com/ Avira UnErase Personal
Technically you can revoer the file if you didnt erase it 5+times

It is there until such time as the space on the hard drive has new data written. All that is deleted is the connection to it. Active@File Recovery offers a restoratation programme for $29.95. Now, if you are worried someone will recover files you have deleted, Spybot Search & Destroy has a shredder. Drag your files into the shredder instead of the recycle bin, and they will be overwritten several times, making it virtually impossible to reconstruct them. There is a stand-alone programme called Shredder as well, from http://baliganikhil.tripod.com/page2.html

Go to the folder where you originally had the document stored and right-click. I can't remember the rest of it haha, but I hope this helps. Somewhere there should be a list of dates where you can restore the state that the folder was in on that date, including the files that were in it. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope this points you in the right direction!! Edit: I was thinking, and I did this in school. It's possible that it's just because the school server system backs up everything every night so it might not work for you :)

The data remains on your hard drive even if it is deleted. It is only lost when new data is written overtop of the deleted data. If it has not been over written, there is software to recover those files.

there is recovery software that can bring them back. .
Norton, and others sell such recovery software. .
You can google "recovery software" or "file recovery", etc. . and see what you come up with. . you can have a company do it that specializes in it, or you can buy software (online and elsewhere) that will do it.
