The virus commonly known as smallpox is the variola virus.
There are actually two major strains, "major" and "minor" - variola major being the seriously dangerous one.
But, it's OK, small pox has been eradicated in the wild.... it only exists in a small handful... well, a few dozen.... OK, OK, a few hundred - research labs. And military research centres... Can't imagine why.
