Tite Kubo himself ( the creator of bleach ) gave two reasons to calling it that. One was a symbolic reason. As the soulreapers cleanse souls, it's like they are "bleaching" their souls. Like how bleaching in a clothes sense means to remove stains and blemishes, the shinigami remove sin and corruption from the souls. The other reason he gave is because "Bleach" was the name of his favorite Nirvana (thats right, kurt kobain nirvana) album. BTW, head to bleachportal.net and you'll about shat yourself because of all the cool stuff. They have Fan-subbed episodes, fanfictioin, FREE downloadable songs from bleach, FREE downloadable jappenesse dubbed, english subtitled episodes up to episode 102.

Tite Kubo actually wanted to call the series Black (notice what color the characters are wearing?) but decided against it because it sounded too generic. So he decided to call it the opposite of black, but didn t want to call it White. So he named it Bleach.

no way kubo called it cause of his hair color, bleach is much deeper than that...

Pretty much it, Ichigo's hair colour is a natural 'orange' that you get if you bleach black hair, he cops quite a bit of flack for it when he's younger, one other student, who has bleached his hair insists Ichigo goes back to hhis normal hair colour to avoid copying him, which fires ichigo up quite a lot. What it saying that some of the character have special power that transform themselves into different person with different type of power. When more episode show you see the point I'm saying. Bleach will get interest as more sercet are reveal.

I'm also wondering why it's called Bleach... I know FMA is called Full metal Alchemist because of the main character

I would assume that it refers to Ichigo Kurosaki's bleached hair, I wonder if he only bleached the curtains and not the rug though.
