Mt. St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980 at 08:32 Pacific Standard Time.
Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano in Skamania County, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is located 96 miles (154 km) south of the city of Seattle and 53 miles (85 km) northeast of Portland, Oregon. It was a stratovolcano or also known as composite volcano.
The eruption caused a massive debris avalanche, reducing the elevation of the mountain's summit from 9,677 feet (2,950 m) to 8,364 feet (2,550 m), and replacing it with a mile-wide (1.5 km-wide) horseshoe-shaped crater (see geology section or 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens for more detail).[3] The debris avalanche was up to 0.7 cubic miles (2.3 km³) in volume, making it the largest in recorded history.[3]
Hope this helps!

Unlike what allot of people believe ,,,,, the earth isn't the solid mass everyone thinks it is ,,,,, The surface is constantly moving ,and changing,,,,, That is the reason for the earth quakes and tsunami's we experience ,,,,, The earths core is a constantly seething mass of lava ,,,,,, There are gasses in this core that are always trying to find a way of venting to the cooler atmosphere ,,,, Volcano's either active or inactive are the vents through which these gasses escape ,,,,,,,the actual volcano or where it appears is one of the weakest areas of the planets surface through which this ventings takes place ,,,,, Mount St Helens which is in the state of Washington in the US is one of these vents too but a relatively small one ,,,,,,, Compared to some of the biggest ones that have occured in earths history ,,,,, Mount St Helens is just a pop in the pan ,,,,, That should explain the magnitude of the Mount St Helen's event and how much worse it could have been,,,,, There are active volcano's right now that are active under water in the Hawaian Islands and in the process of forming new islands in this chain ,,,, This is just another example of the constantly changing surface of the planet ,,,,,, The constant heat of the earths core is an excelent source of energy for the planet if man would just forget his greed and tap it ,,,,,,,Geo Thermal Energy is a constant and never ending source of supply ,,,,,, It costs nothing to produce it and hardly anything to tap into it ,,,,,, Each country could become indepentant of others for oil or other sources of energy ,,,,,,,, Yoda said that ,,,,,,
