I am 39 weeks pregnant. I am 1cm and fully effaced, but I have been that way for a month now. I am having contractions about every 20 min. so far. They are hard but not getting closer yet or stronger. I was wondering if this is going to be it..how long does it take for them to get closer or stronger? I am setting on the couch and drinking water, cause I was told if they were false then drinking a lot of water will kill them out..and it hasnt yet and I have drank a ton so far. Should I do nipple stimulation to get them stronger or closer, will that work? and what else. Sorry this is my first pregnancy. Thanks for all your help.

If you want to go into labor, then walking helps. Or if you start walking and you are not really going into labor, and the contractions stop then you are not really in labor. If you just sit and think about labor, sometimes that can stop them, (so i have heard) or you can make yourself go crazy waiting. Nipple stimulation is supposed to help contractions too, so if you want to go into labor then try it out. Hope I could help, and good luck to you and your baby...who you will get to meet soon it sounds like!

First of all relax...Getting upset will only make things worse. Your body knows exactly when the right time will be. Walking is a great benefit, however use caution. Try to stay close to home. Something I did, although I know some people frown upon, was drinking 2 ounces of castor oil mixed in orange juice. The contractions took off from there and my daughter was born 6 hours later. From a Paramedic standpoint, I would tell you to just let your body do what its going to do. Women have been giving birth for centuries with no problems, your body already knows what to do. When your contractions start coming 5 minutes apart, your water breaks, your pain becomes unbearable, or you have this tremendous urge to go to the bathroom (to poop I mean), then its time to get to the hospital. In the meantime, just relax and enjoy this experience. Your child will soon be here to greet the world...then the real pain starts...lol Good luck, God Bless, and please update to let us know when you had your child.

I would say at 39 weeks and constant contracting you are more likely than not way more than 1cm at this point. Every woman is different. I wouldn't advise the pizza thing at all at this point. Walk/pace, keep drinking the water. I wouldn't let too many hours pass before getting to a hospital, after all. even 39 weeks is considered term. Be sure you have a quick way to the hospital!
BEST OF LUCK TO YA!

There are lots of different stories on "how to get the baby out". But everybody's body is different. I've heard a lot of women say walking a lot or on hills helps get you into labor. I heard spicy food can also set you into labor. You can try all of these things till your blue in the face though. There's no guarantee what will work. Go to a pregnancy website and ask the mommies what they've heard to help. I can't give you my own experience since my daughter was pushed out by inducing after 1 1/2 wks of no show. Good luck!

I have never heard of eating pizza to start labor that has got too be a myth.
Walking can bring on the labor.. This happened to me when I was in labor with my daughter I was having contractions all night but they were not consistent this is why I did not go to the hospital. However, in the morning I really felt the contractions and they was getting closer and closer together and I knew that I was in labor. As soon as I get too the hospital my water broke and I knew that she was coming...
Good Luck to you, your baby is coming really soon...

Never heard that about pizza or water. Nipple stimulation does work sometimes. The best thing to do is walk. Don't sit down unless you are trying to stop them. But at 39 wks. I'm SURE that's not what you want!
God bless you & baby!

It very well may be labor. My grandmother told me if you drink a cup of cumin tea and if you truly are in labor your contractions will get stronger if not they will stop. I drank the tea and about 30 minutes later. My contractions were closer and stronger. Went into labor that even. Just thought you'd like to know.

get the ambulance on speed dial and get your man yo give you a few good orgasms. that might work and if not, you will have had some fun in the process. this will contract the muscles and could help your contractions along. this is what helped out first along but that was still 72 hours prior to the actual birth. and i was there for the whole duration. she slept i didn't.
enjoy and let us all know how it went.
Good luck and get ready for lots of sleepless nights both before and after birth.

Ok if they stay at 20mins then u should be fine for a bit!!
Try having a relaxing shower/bath!! Put some soothing music on (or something u love) Take a load off, stop drinking water.... U have had enuff now!!
I continued on with my daily routine, cleaning and cooking when i was having contractions!!
Keep on until u cant bear it anymore and they are like 8mins apart.... Or until ur water breaks!! Dont panic whatever u do!!!!
:) stay calm & welcome to motherhood!!!

Try walking, they will get closer together if it is true labor, they could be braxton hicks.
I've never heard of the pizza idea.
