It's NOT okay for a job to discriminate against a persons skin color, gender, religion, in a womans case, pregnancy. SO why is it okay for a job to tell a man if he want's the job he has to cut his hair? I woman can have long hair but a man can't? They have a certain image to portray they tell me, but if you don't let nice guys have long hair, that keeps the "bad guys have long hair" mentality alive! I'm not all hardcore religious, but Jesus has long hair! AND a beard! It's wrong. It's discrimination, no matter how ya slice it.

Amen! I couldn't agree with you more! What's wrong with this culture? You're right Jesus had long hair -but he was a radical and a peacenik - another thing I think a lot of people in our culture have completely missed. I assume you have long hair. Try to find a job where you can keep it! I mean c'mon who wants to be part of a fascist corporation anyway?

Your best bet would be to cut your hair. Consider the places where you're applying and the position you're applying for. Are the places that require a bit more dressy look? Or are they really casual places? Look and see what the employees are dressing like. Usually that's a good indicator of how strict or lax a business is with the way their employees look. Check your mannerisms as well. Maybe you're giving off the wrong vibe, usually when people are having a time trying to find a job, it shows in stance and overall demeanor. Looking good is only a part of the battle. Are you making eye contact? Using yes sir and no sir (or ma'am)? Are you speaking correct English? Do you look or at least give the impression of being a man confident in himself, or are you looking like your entering into another big disappointment? And if you know the types of places where long hair on men is acceptable then I would stick with those places. Besides, it's only hair. It will grow back :)

My grandfather used to tell a story about not hiring a guy with long hair. He told the guy. I don't hire people with one arm. The guy's like??? what are you talking about? So my grandfather pretends like he's holding his long hair out of his eyes with one hand while trying to work.

Because it usually looks sloppy and unprofessional! It just isn't as acceptable for men to have long hair; I understand why you would consider this a form of discrimination! It is kind of silly...

Maybe you should consider that it is their company and the type of work they do may have a bearing on the dress code. If you don't like their dress code don't apply. Speaking of JESUS who had long hair They Crucified him on the cross

I agree with you that it's discrimination to tell someone how to take care of their hair. You could complain to the Chamber of Commerce or take it up with a lawyer.

I have long hair and ran into the same prejudice. The way I got around it is now I work for myself. I am glad I don't work for those who share that same stupid mindset.

Well some people feel uncomfortable with working with people with long hair. It also is not very professinal. And Jesus died for everyman even if they did not like him so he can have long hair if he wants to.

It all has to do with the stupidity of judging someone by their appearance. I say, grow it out as long as you want. Don't let them hold you back.
