Your CDRW will work.

A bootable CD-Rom is a CD from which you boot the PC. This means putting the CD in your CD-Rom drive and power-on or reboot your system. The PC will load a boot image from the CD-Rom and control is given to this boot image.

A bootable CD-Rom is not a CD that you insert into your CD-Rom drive and windows will start something from this CD-Rom.
This is called an "autoplay" CD-Rom.

Just make sure you make the "bootable CD" for the right operating system that you have on the computer you are trying to fix. It should work just fine. Any blank disc will do.

usually whatever comp u make the bootable cd on, will only work on the comp. Sony CD-RW will work but make sure u close the disc so it can be read easier.
A "bootable" cd is something u can use when ur comp crashes (ie: hard drive goes bad.)
