Children need their fathers as role models. The most potent, important relationship you'll have is with BOTH your mother and FATHER.

Need men for what? Procreation? Obviously not. (I'm not going to talk about cloning sperm; I'm not a scientist, I don't know if it were possible. I'll just pretend we've somehow been able to do it).
Now, if you're trying to say "If we didn't need men to make babies, would we need them at all?", well, then the answer is an emphatic yes. Not necessarily for sex (lesbians would have a ball, although I might worry about poor straight women), nor for doing hard labor/handy work around the house (seriously, do we buy into that stereotype anymore, that women can't change a tire?), nor for anything else like that. Simply because the world is an infinitely better place with lots of diversity. Questions like this generally, I've found, stem from a sort of twisted feminist view that doesn't think too highly of men (especially from some lesbians who feel no tie to them at all), and just wishes they didn't have to deal with them. That's sad. Certainly it'd be nice if some men conveniently left the planet, but there are so many great ones who aid and enrich our lives.
On a lesbian website I frequent, someone asked a similar question along the lines of "ick, don't you just hate men?", and the response was overwhelmingly in support. The women said that they weren't interested in them sexually, of course, and could care less, and probably had some issues with the patriarchy, but they absolutely loved the men who were in their lives (fathers, brothers, friends, past lovers, etc., etc.) and wouldn't give them up for the world.
Of course we need men! Any paradise that becomes that way by excluding certain people isn't a paradise, in my mind.

I did hear of a zygote being created from merging the nucleus of one egg cell with another egg cell, so if you want to be real technical about it, no sperm are needed. And this wouldn't necessarily lead to inbreeding per se, even with cloned sperm, because even if you clone just one sperm, that sperm would combine with the dna from the different women's eggs. I mean, it's not ideal, whatever deficiencies were present in the dna of that one sperm would likely be carried into all the offspring.
That said, although I am a lesbian, I cherish some of my relationships with men - male family members and friends, even memories of ex-boyfriends from before I "came out". So I wouldn't want to get rid of the male half of the human race, no.

What?!! Of course we are needed. We've enhanced the world for the better or for the worse. We are somewhat the majority and we protect and vitalize society more-so than woman. The world would be Extremely different and boring (i say). Woman needs comfort, and men are better at making that than woman. Woman likes to be appreciated by men... Lesbians don't count... How would you even get a sperm without men. If cloned continuously, everyone would look so much alike and will get tired of knowing the "expected" of appearance.

Probably not, but if we clone too much it would be like a whole village of brothers and sisters, then their children would have mutations....Then we would still end up with unintelligent folks. If we could just freeze sperm from at least 25 million men, then yes, clone on sister!

"Need" men? As in ... if we don't have a *use* for them, should they be allowed to *exist*?
Obviously you wouldn't need men to make babies if you could clone sperm. Alas, you would only have a limited gene pool without any mutation/evolution going on, and eventually you'd have a race of imbeciles.
There are already enough of those, *I* think. How 'bout you?

Yes, because we need the emotional bond that men give us. Have you ever read Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy? We need the same bond the blood do, but in a different way. If there were no guys in the world, then I would probably die because most of my friends are guys, I understand guys (most of the time. Except when I like them, then that goes out the window), and I love all my friends, guys and gals so much. Throw out guys, and we lose so much.

It's a double-edged sword, you don't need men to reporduce but then you will have people looking the same. A clone of a ovary and eggs that will be interesting.

I've been with my wife (maried in the state of calif) for 14 years and I don't dislike men. Men (gay and straight) have always been my best friends. I don't care for bashing of men....I may not have a sexual attraction towards them but I do prefer them as a friend. I have a son and a daughter and my life wouldn't be worth living if he wasn't in it....I look forward to his sperm because it's going to bring me a grandbaby....

Actually with modern technology. You women only need one man. One man produces up to a half million sperm each day. With 1 billion fertile women in the world it would only take about eight months for every one of them to get pregnant. Then he could start all over again.
So where do I apply? And when do I start ladies?
