Depends on the species of turtle. Some need a lot of depth, some need an inch or two. Some need soft, warm moist places like in moistened peat. Some need a drier type places like sand. It all depends on their particular designing that nature intended for the area they originated from.

how big is your turtle times by x or the number of eggs it can lay
that should equal how much sand it needs

well a sea turtle digs a hole that is probably 1 to 2 ft. deep so depending on how small or large ur turtle is, guesstimate from there . sorry i can't b more specific. u might ask the pet store u got it from. good luck.
