Why do so many people around the world hate Americans?

Question

My question is "Why do so many people appear to hate Americans?"

Possibly because we give off the image that we are this powerful upper class nation with an enormous amount of money and power, which is somewhat true up to a point. We show the world that everyone in our nation his happy and is living an easy life, and no one worries about money or what goes on in other nations because they don't need to know.
Along with that image, we also come off as being arrogant. Being so far up the economic and technological heirarchy, we look like this corrupt nation that only cares about money and wealth and power and no longer thinks about the people.
Our image is too good to be true and in some sense, it is. People doubt what really goes on in our nation, that we are all spoiled and sheltered from the rest of the world, the real world.

Because they stick their noses where they don't belong...Get into other countries problems and make things worse...I don't mind that our country is so diverse with different ethnic groups from the four corners of the world, fleeing oppression, starvation, and even seeking shelter from war, but a country can only do so much...Instead of trying to save the whole world all at once maybe a little at a time. Take care of your own people first right here in our own country,there are alot of people out there that need our help. Let those other countries take care of their own... I too get angry at my own government, because I wasn't given a choice...I was born when Alaska was just a territory and not a state...So in fact I was born Russian...Don't get me wrong, I am proud to be an American Citizen but they stick their noses into other peoples affairs to much, and then they hate us for trying to help them....Maybe if the US backed off and left them alone, they can settle their problems on their own....And besides the Homeland Security really sucks....Can't our government even recognize their own citizens anymore? that they have to even strip search? How sad...especially in a small community of less then 10,000 people where everyone knows everyone...Sad...and the humulliation our elders have to put up with....I love our country but too much is too much.....Maybe it's about time we disolve all the boundaries and unify the whole world under one world system.

There's a really interesting book called "The Eagle's Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World" by Mark Hertsgaard. In it, he details plenty of interviews he held with people of other countries before and after 9/11.

I'm Australian and I don't hate you guys. I think some countries just hate the west period. Bush and our Prime Minister (Howard) probably don't help our reputations though. I think we all need a change and to try harder at peace and understanding throughout the world.

It's hard to say that individual Americans are hated. . .there may be contempt for policy, arrogance etc. There is also deep respect and admiration for Americans as well.

in my opinion,, its not really considered hatred it basically more like jealousy. Americans are Superior from any other country, we are knowledgeable, we are free, we are a Rich country. n ....etc. there is alot more that we have that others don't. and that's y ppl would risk their life's to get to the united states

They 'appear' to hate us because so many of them DO hate us.

Those that hate us, hate us because of our unutterable arrogance, ignorance, violence, and the way our current administration uses power to interefere in other people's business.
