Earaches can be caused by mild infection or a change in altitude. Here are some ways to relieve the pain associated with this problem.

1. Sooth the ear with the warm, not the hot setting, of a hairdryer. Now be careful and make sure it is on the warm setting.

2 .If you puncture a piece of garlic and pour the juice in the ear it will help to take the pain away. Garlic has a natural antibiotic, so use it, and see if it helps.

If the ache is from altitude change, just chew gum or yawn to relieve the pain.

If you get it from swimming, usually called, swimmer's ear, just put some mineral oil in before going in the water. This should help the condition.

If the pain is bad and doesn't go away quickly, make sure you go to the doctor, he can give you an antibiotic to cure this problem.

If you just have fluid in your ear, cleaning your ear with alcohol will help dry up the fluid. A lot of people recommend warm sweet oil, but it has never worked for me. My advice though when it comes to an earache, is get to the Dr...I just recently developed an earache and was told to clean it with hydrogen peroxide, so I did. I thought it was getting better and then on Friday night, of course, when you can't go to the Dr,my ear began to hurt fiercely. Saturday night drum beats started inside my ear and green stuff started pouring out of my ear. I went to the Dr. on Mon. and he said it looked as if my eardrum exploded and sent me straight to a specialist. My eardrum may have to be patched. This whole experience has been tremendously painful.I don't reccommend home treatment for earaches.I never will again.

If the earache is due to trapped air in the ear canal, what I have done successfully for my children is to roll up a sheet of newspaper. Make the end going into the ear as small as possible and the top wide. Insert it into the ear (carefully), light the newspaper with a match at the top. As the newspaper burns, the warmness forces the trapped air out. You can even see when the air escapes. First it starts sucking in the flame and when the air escapes, you can hear a whoosing sound. You have to be near a water source to put the newspaper out, and don't let the newspaper burn past the half of it. My kids immediately feel the relief.

If it popped only and now it hurts- it could be hurting from the pop! Or maybe TMJ where your jaw hurts too, up to the ear line? Did you get water in it by chance? Or have a buildup of wax? There is Murine, which is over the counter if it needs flushing, and there is also some drops for pain i do believe over the counter. But if its an actual ear infection, I'm sorry but you'll need to see the Doc! Best of Luck & Happy Thanksgiving.

One thing my mother used to do when I was a child was to buy a bottle of Sweet Oil form the pharmacy. She would place the whole bottle in a glass of hot water to warm up the oil inside and pour a bit down the ear canal followed by placing a cotton ball in the ear. I have since used this on both my children. The oil helps to loosen wax and the warmth eases the pain. Give it a try.

It really depends on what is causing it. If its wax build up then you can try using peroxide. you just pour a capful in your ear let it sit in there and then turn your head to drain it. you can do this a couple times a day. It really does work unless you have an ear infection. You can also apply damp heat like a moist towel thats warmed up to help eleviate the pain. These are all things I have done and they do work for me however everyone is different. Good luck.

My mom would heat a towel in the oven, on about 200 degrees or less, then you lay your ear on it . make sure not to hot. it helps drain any fluid and helps ease the pain.
