I'm amazed at how many people responded who have never given birth. I guess people will say just about anything. For starters, any quality Ob/Gyn will advise you that any insured woman who has a vaginal birth without complications have approximately 48 hours from the time she delivers. This is due primarily to legislation that helped to regulate hospital stay policies within insurance agreements under the Clinton administration. I believe this was called the Newborns' and Mothers' Health Protection Act .In 1994 when I had my daughter I was in at 7:00 pm on a Saturday and out by 8:00 pm the next day. Of course it was an extremely successful delivery and I was ready to go home. However, if you have a c-section, I believe the stay is extended to 96 hours and as with all things, it depends on if the woman experiences any complications.

Usually about 24 hours unless you have complications. I had an emergency c-section with my son and was out in 3 days, so don't know where people are getting the idea that a vaginal birth is 3 days?

Usually, only one day from the time that you actually give birth. I stayed for four days, three nights, but I was induced in the early a.m. and didn't deliver until late that night. I then stayed an extra day because I was nervous about breastfeeding and was able to stay a bit longer to get a consultation from the lactation specialist. Luckily we have great insurance (my husband also works at the hospital where we delivered) and they had the room available. If you can, stay an extra day, let someone else cook for you and nuture you while you can!!

now a days the hospital have what they call a "drive-thru birth" where if you have your baby on monday, you will be out of there by tuesday. whether you're on medicaid or have a health plan, you will out of there fast. the only reason i stayed in the hospital for a week was because 2 days, i was in labor and the rest of the days, i had an infection in my blood because the new nurse didnt know how to put an iv in my hand and kept using the same needle over and over and it infected my blood and since they didnt want a law suit they made sure i stayed there and got rid of the infection before i left

If there are no complications they generally only keep you 24 - 48 hours. It is only two days but when they are buffing the floors at 2 in the morning it may seem just about like an eternity. And in case you were wondering they don't send home owners manuals with those tiny little humans. LOL!!!

IT all depends on how the birth went......
With my last child I was out within 20 hrs..
You have to have a dr for the baby already before they will let the baby leave the hospital...
You should be there no longer than 2 days..
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

that would depend on where you live and weather this is your first birth or not.
the first birth you will normaly be in for between 2 and 5 days depending on the birth. the second you can be in for as little as 24 hours and the 3rd onward you can be out within 8 hours.
If there are complications then these times can change.
good luck and remember to relax.

It really depends on how you and the baby are doing. I stayed 2 days with my girl and 3 days with my boy. I was ready to leave the same day I had them I hate hospitals.
