I am a Veteran of 19 years in the US ARMY...im in school working on my degree. Alot of the professors continously made snide remarks and insinuations about the military. Sometimes while looking directly at me. How should i handle this..am i just being paranoid? Very proud of my service but would like a degree for the future.

It's possible that you have some profs who are jerks (I would use a stronger word but it would get censored out) and actually intend to insult you. OK, so there are jerks in every profession. Like a lot of people, I think that America's recent lmilitary adventures were incredibly stupid and counter productive, but I still respect the young people who volunteered for service and put their lives on the line for what they think is right.
Criticisms of the military are not criticisms of you - you weren't in charge! So, relax, tend to business, and as one of the other answerers said, after being the service, handling this should be a piece of cake!

First, they weren't raised right. Second, they should respect everyone, but especially our military men and women.

I am guessing it has to do with their age and the fact that we have been in some wars in their lifetime that folks do not agree with. (that still does not excuse this behavior) They obviously didn't serve or volunteer so they may feel guilty about that. Veterans of earlier wars were treated much better (and we were a nicer society). Can you imagine someone protesting at a WWII veteran's funeral. (I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, but a funeral is not the place.

The best thing is to not take it personally, but I am sure that is not easy. You have every right to be proud.

God Bless you for your service!

They sound like a bunch of jerks. Be proud and try to ignore them. I have family members who were in the military and we are proud of our military men and women. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't be. Don't let them stop you from getting your degree either. My cousin was in the army for 20 years and then got his law degree. He is an attorney and has been a judge and run for political office. Don't let those professors keep you from pursuing your dreams. You deserve the best.

Be proud, look 'em in the eye and smile. Maybe think of 'em as your D.I. You made it thru 19 yrs in the army, this should be cake. Good Luck and Semper Fi.

Try feeling a bit sorry for them, that they are degrading themselves so much by making these remarks. If you react to their remarks, they will have succeeded in degrading you - so do not give them that satisfaction.
