It's not the first time. I was only 9 when large numbers of American troops were sent to Vietnam and 16 when we finally got out of there. You think this is bad? This is nothing compared to the division in this country during that time. I grew up watching riots in the streets over war and race, kids getting shot and killed on campus at Kent State by the Ohio National Guard for protesting , large groups who gathered to spit on the returning soldiers, just to name a few of the nasty memories from that time. On top of that was Watergate, which started in 1972.

This is certainly a divisive time, and the politics are only going to get worse over the next 2 years. The mid-terms are nothing, wait till the national campaigns start for the Presidency. Our children will grow up more politically savvy than those raised during peacetime. It may not be a nice environment to raise our kids in, but try and look at it as an opportunity to teach your children about their government.

We as American people aren't setting any examples for our children but the political candidates, with their slandering and defaming of their opponents would throw the average person behind bars since it is illegal yet they get away with it. They all should be locked up so then our children would learn by example that this kind of behavior is against the law. I'm afraid to see what kind of country our children are inheriting for it is only getting worse.

Yes, it's not much better here in Missouri. We have a election for a U.S. Senate seat and they spend more time making personal attacks instead of addressing the issues at hand. Neither one has said much about where they stand on most issues.

Then we also have the big stem cell bill that people are now taking about thanks to Rush and MJ Fox.

Can't wait till it's over.

The media could be a big help here. They could boycott all personal attacks and only report on comments and debates on issues. I know, I'm talking utopia here. - And I'm not blaming the media, they are not causing the problem. But they could sure help!
