If you combine ice, salt, and hot water you will have warm salty water.

Salt lowers the temperature at which water boils and freezes. This is, no doubt, what your homework assignment is supposed to demonstrate, but you haven't really asked the question properly.

Salt is put on the roads to melt the ice. Salt is added to water so that boiling occurs at a lower temperature, leading to gentler cooking.

If the water is hot then the ice will melt. Icebergs melt all the time.
