I know this is probably a stupid question, but if somebody said something like, "She's middle-of-the-road in appearance", what would that mean?

Middle of the road means between to extremes. In the case of appearance I assume it means NOT UGLY, but then again NOT BEAUTIFUL.

It means that there is no extremes in either direction.. to the left or to the Right but right down the middle.. In politics, you hear a lot about leftists and those on the right..... but a middle-of-the-road would be a moderate.. right down the middle

that the person in question is not considered to be ugly or beautiful, just average in looks. to be in the "middle of the road" is said to be; between opinions, destinations, decisions or commitments to/about a specific person place or thing. i hope this helps. and there are no stupid questions...only the unasked ones.

Not ugly, but not pretty...,middle of the road also means you wont make a commitment to either side of a story, or political party, etc...

"Middle of the road" can mean average, or it can mean somewhere in the middle of conservative and liberal. In your example, it means average. If you say someone is middle of the road, politically, he is neither a right-wing or left-wing extremist, but rather he is middle of the road (meaning not at all strong-feeling in his political views). I hope this helps.

i don't know that i would use that phrase in that way. someone that's middle of the road...doesn't take sides..doesn't make a choice one way or the other in an effort not to have problems with either side.
