Friends want to help eachother, but if the borrower doesn't repay the lender it can put a strain on the friendship. I've seen it done before, be careful!

There are two ways to look at this.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed" - Benjamin Franklin - when using this as my mantra I lend the money and never ever expect it back. IF I get it back I am pleasently suprised. I never lend money when I can not afford to do so.

The next is when a friend is not peticularly close, and/or I do not have it to lend, but I can get it IF I really want to. For that person If I decide to lend it, I write up a promisory note with the terms of repayment and have them sign it and have it notorized. WHY? because then when they do not repay it I can sue them legally. I only do this IF I have to borrow it from savings or from another bill or from my VISA, ect and MUST have it back. - It usually causes hard feelings, so I try to never ever do this.

If I decide to lend money to one of my friends ...it will be after I determine that I don't need the money returned to me... this is important because many friendships are lost over a few bucks. I give my friend the money and I say ... " here, think of it as a gift, someday you will be here for me. " and that is it. I never speak of it again. ...If you can't spare the money as a gift then have the GUTS to say "NO".

My advice is to never lend money to family or friends..give them whatever you can afford without ever expecting anything in return. That is why we have banks!

Not if you want them to remain friends. It's best not to go there.
