I'm thinking of writing a few books, some fiction and others non-fiction. I want to eventually get a publisher but still want to make a start before I get to this stage.

I have thought of selling direct via e-bay and producing my own copies but will I have to pay a commission on each book sold?

I could sell via my website but want to keep personal effects clear of my web goals so this is quite difficult to do.

If you want to sell books before finding the right publishing company, try out lulu.com.

If you get lulu.com to print your book, you can have your own bookstore on their site. Check it out.
Also check out, on lulu, Stargate Publishing for an example of what it would look like. This is my bookstore.

well, if an author did not have a publisher then his or her book may never be heard of. If a well-known author did this their fans would know about the pdf file and download it, but newer writers would have no fans and no one would buy their book.
