Oh, I sure do remember those wonderful days! :-) I don't have a cell phone yet, and have been leery of getting one ... but have been thinking occasionally it would sure be handy, when I'm stuck somewhere without access to a phone - like the other day when my cat and I were waiting for a cab that never showed up. Would have been good to be able to call another one, without leaving my position by the main door of the building.
But I see other people glued to their cell, talking loudly in inappropriate places (bus, restaurant) ... or addicted to their Blackberry .... and I don't want to become one of them!
It's funny, the ads on TV for these things make it sound like having access to your workplace wherever you go is "freedom", but it sounds more like bondage to me.
I guess cell phones are like anything else, in that they can be used for good or for ill.
I do wish everyone on the bus and train would shut up with their damned phones though! Let me enjoy looking out the window in peace.

I have a mobile but I only ever use it for emergencies so I guess I could do without it really, not the Internet though, love it, its a great source of information for everything under the sun and I would be lost without email, I have family and friends all over the world and its great just getting replies back so quick instead of having to wait weeks for them, yes I do remember the wonderful days before we had mobile and computers, but were they really that wonderful considering the technology we have today.

I not only wished I did not have a mobile phone, I have decided not to have one since my last contract ran out!! It has been most liberating! Although I must say I love the net, but suppose I could do w/o it pretty easily and not feel guilty about spending more time with the family or on my many little projects. But there is more freedom, I believe, in not being at everyone else's right hand and constantly interrupted by others. Breath in...now out....and...LET IT GO!! Seriously, it is a hard addiction, good luck with it.

How funny - I think about this every single day. I yearn for the times where you phoned someone at home and if they weren't in then tough! And you would organise to meet someone at a certain place and certain time. I used to arrange with my first boyfriend to be in a given phone box at a given time so I could ring the phone box to speak to him! This was only ten years ago! I love just sitting at home with the TV off and my phone switched off...time seems to slow down sometimes. There's just too much information out there and the world is getting smaller!

I often wish I didn't feel compelled to have all of those things. I wish I didn't care about reading my email, and I could leave the house without my cell phone. The truth is, they seem to be as much a part of our lives as a refrigerator these days.

i can sort of understand the pros of having a mobile, particuarly if you're in an emergency of some kind, but if i had the choice i for one can do without one. i mean the phone bills you rack up and so what if it has mp3, text messaging etc? i'd still rely on the internet for sending my e-mails and contacting people, as well as downloading music. plus, i dislike it a lot when i am on the bus and people talk aloud on their mobile, and its as if they are shouting rather than keeping a low profile. i was on a bus, two weeks ago and this bloke of African origin was sounding as if he was shouting and a lot of people turned their heads to look at him. i don't want to know about their business or what they're saying.
so my answer is yes, i, in particular, can live without one

I wish for no cell phone sometimes, because my brother and mother can both talk up an absolute storm and sometimes I feel just tethered. I also hate that I call my wife when I forget about something in the store instead of using my own brain.

I rarely use my cell phone; I hate them. So really I wish no one else ever had a mobile phone, because they drive everyone around them mental when they use them.
I must admit though, I could not live without internet nowadays.

Heh... I don't have a cell phone. I use a regular phone and email or IM, and spend quite a bit of time on the Internet.

I wish my phone could crap hundred dollar bills and emit a high frequency noise that only hot deaf mute men with huge schlongs could hear but I suppose I will just continue not being rich or getting laid.
