After being a mechanic for over 40 years the answer to your question is, YES. A cold engine has only a film of oil on the moving parts as most of it has drained back into the oil pan. As the engine runs the oil pump moves oil through the engine and lubricates the moving internal parts(why it is important to change your oil every 3000 miles) causing less friction, intern less ware. Also it is nice to get into a warm car with the windows not needing scraping. Less ware on internal parts means less break downs and longer engine life...Enjoy the ride...

Depends on where you live, temperature and how much **** is on windshield. Manufacturers and Govt. say no. I say yes as it allows oil to lubricate properly. IDLE only ! Clean windshield with scraper or credit card. I let car run or a minute before shutting off also. This lets engine settle down to idle, no other big reason. I commonly get 200000 miles out of vehicle before selling it.

For years that was true however newer motors and oils make it unnecessary. In fact, Consumer Reports says that warming up your engine is nothing more than a waste of gas.

Its always a good idea not to let your vehicle idle more than (30) seconds when you first start it, after starting it drive at a moderate pace.
