Because they're teenage girls(most of the people who gossip), and that is what teenage girls do. Besides, no none can say they haven't gossipied once in their life.
Plus, its addicting. The more you gossip, the more you want to gossip.
Also, our society is based upon it, in some way (famous people, much). Its human instinct. Like its human instinct to get angry.

People are so gossipy 'cause it gives them something to laugh at. And maybe somebody gossiped about them and they're just getting back at whoever gossiped about them. Either way don't let it get to you. People who gossip are just looking for a little excitement. Personally I think gossiping is immature. Now, don't go around saying,''Ha-ha!! You gossip! You're immature!'' Just don't gossip and chances are they won't gossip about you.

Well it depends on if it is malicious gossip or just idle gossip. I gossip with my friends all the time, it's kind of like the lifeline that keeps us all connected. We tell someone and we just pass it down the line. Like if something bad happens I don't have to tell 10 people. I can tell one and nine more will call to cheer me up. We don't gossip to hurt eachother or be mean it's really just communicating.
